The 2005 show was fantastic - crowd loved it and it is nominated for a 2005 Rondo Award. This year we made it a co-movie presentation and 70th birthday bash for special guest Bob Burns. Nurse Moan-eek and Doc Gangrene hooked Bob up to a mental device (Psychotronic transmitter helmet) that projected movie from Bob's memory - first his Major Mars short film, then an episode of the Original Ghostbusters. The Exotic Ones played live, before, during and after the set. In between the two movies we surprised Bob by making it a 70th birthday celebration! We handed out a special commemorative comic at the door dedicated to Bob with remembrances in it from friends of Bob's the likes of Tom Weaver, Frank Dietz, Donnie Waddell, and Dave Conover. The band The Exotic Ones played an original tune called the ballad of Bob Burns, and I gave Bob the original art from the cover of the comic (which Dr. Gangrene himself painted). And fan Bob Horne made a special custom mego action figure of Bob Burns and Tracy the gorilla - it was stunning, and we presented this to Bob along with gifts from the band. We then showed the Ghostbusters episode, at the end of which Doc threw switches on equipment to materialize a guest from Bob's emory onto the stage - nothing happened, until there was a snort from the back of the room. In walked not one but two visitors from Bob's past - Tracy the gorilla and Miss Shock! Bob and Kathy had snuck offstage to dress up, along with the help of makeup guru John Goodwin. Then Doc Gangrene, Nurse Moan-eek, Tracy and Miss Shock all threw a huge box of t-shirts into the audience while the band played the theme song to the original Ghostbusters. Afterwards the Exotic Ones played a set while people in the audience had pics taken with Tracy and Miss Shock, and Doc Gangrene even sang the Monster Mash. It was an awesome show and I can't wait till next year!! Photos courtesy Genny Shannon and Jim Clatterbaugh |
